Bratan. It got really bright suddenly. Couldn’t really see if it was you up there. Tomorrow we climb the Sun together. I promise.

In order to properly access Microsoft Live Hotmail using Firefox 2 there are some extensions that can be installed and configured.

  1. User Agent Switcher by Chris Pederick. Get it from Firefox Add-ons. Microsoft blocks Firefox 2, but allows Firefox 1.5, so it should be configured with the following user agent:
    • Description:
      Firefox (Windows XP)
    • User Agent:
      Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv: Gecko/20060909 Firefox/
    • Free Image Hosting at
    • Here is the User Agent Switcher 0.6.10 default configuration you can import, including the Firefox user agent.
  2. Next advertisements need to be blocked, which will greatly improve the speed of Hotmail, using Adblock Plus by Wladimir Palant. Get it from Firefox Add-ons. Please import the filter from here, or add the following two URLs to filters:
  3. Finally, BlockSite by Erik van Kempen. Get it from Firefox Add-ons. By going to Add-ons from the Tools menu & selecting Options for the BlockSite extension, only one URL should be added:

Now you can activate your Firefox (Windows XP) user agent and safely enjoy the full version of Windows Live Hotmail using Firefox 2. Use the link in the bottom section, “Want to race through your inbox even faster? Try the full version of Windows Live Hotmail. (It’s free, too.)” & get to your new inbox :)

Download Manager Tweak extension

Download Manager Tweak extension Version 0.7.2 — November 24, 2006 (compatible with Firefox 2.0) released !! :D

.. this post will move to a ‘firefox extension page’ of its own hopefully soon.

Everyone must stop telling lies. The world will be a better place, trust me on this.

There are how many naive web users, a few hundred million?.. They must be doing good business.

Ok so… This is how it goes..:) Use the User Agent Switcher Firefox extension:

(compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; Alexa Toolbar)
Microsoft Internet Explorer
4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)

Blog needs serious updating (in trying to keep all posts as current as possible); True for almost all but the post below (can you even say that ..).

Without finding the actual bug page, url (if even reported); here’s how to restore Firefox 1.5 proper behavior to force web page links (target=”_blank”) that open in a new window to open in a tab and open external links in a new window.

Set Firefox – Options, Tabs: “New pages should be opened in: a new tab

a new tab

Then type about:config and set value to 2.

Doing so will change back the option to “New pages should be opened in: a new window” & basically that’s where teh bug is ..

a new window bug

Now Firefox will open a target=”_blank” link in a new tab & external links (web pages dragged to your desktop) in a new window and not in a new tab in the last window (which would happen if simply configuring the dialogue option “New pages should be opened in: a new tab“).
